Careers in Electronics

A career in Electronics Technology offers a vast array of ever-increasing opportunity to graduates. The electronics field has become a highly competitive and challenging environment in which to work. Technically diverse companies, dedicated to the design, manufacturing and integration of complex products, services and systems, may include any of the following: computer technologies, measurement and instrumentation calibration, medical devices, telecommunication networks, automated robotics and control systems, audio, and video. Often such technologies may exist independently, or in some other complex integrated form, borrowing bits and pieces of each to create a functionally new, integrated system. The developmental possibilities often appear endless as more and more high-tech systems integrate and converge.

The daily job of an electronics technician may often take the form of a design laboratory technician, testing and fabricating circuits; or as a manufacturing maintenance technician, building and testing product or servicing the assembly line; or as a customer service technician, dedicated to on-site.
Customer service calls; or as an in-house repair technician, performing detailed troubleshooting and failure analysis on products.

An electronics technician must also be a skilled communicator, proficient in the language of technical documentation, and functionally able to organize and develop comprehensive status or service reports for supervisors and managers. An electronics technician represents a multifaceted individual, one who can effectively analyze, organize, and communicate the results of their day-to-day tasks to others.

Is a career as an electronics technician right for me?
