BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Lanier Technical College Motorsports Vehicle Technology (MVT) program offers students the extraordinary opportunity to prepare for a career in the fascinating world of motorsports. Culminating in either an associate degree or diploma in motorsports vehicle technology, the MVT curriculum covers all the main topics in motorsports and ranges from classroom theory to hands-on experience. We offer students the opportunity to work with a large range of race cars - the largest educational collection in the US.

To qualify for acceptance into the degree or diploma program, prospective students must: 1) Submit a resume, 2) attend an interview in front of a panel of industry experts, 3) complete a competency and skills list, 4) complete a written essay, and 5) complete a practical shop test. A professional panel will review submissions.
The degree and diploma programs cover the following topics:

A HISTORY OF THIS UNIQUE PROGRAM
In 1999, the Panoz Racing School, which was based at Road Atlanta, experienced a substantial growth spurt. It went from maintaining16 racing school cars, to over 100 cars. It was at this point that the company contacted Lanier Technical College for help develop staff training. Lanier Technical College was pleased to work with this group and established the MVT program. While this development proved beneficial to the racing school, it also furthered the training opportunities for many of our local, and national motor sports teams and performance shops.

The Motorsports Technology Program at Lanier Technical College is now in its seventh year. Where are we now? Today the program has students and graduates participating in the highest levels of road racing, circle track, drag racing, and the aftermarket. The result is a win-win situation for motorsports all of our educational partnerships.

As the program continues to expand, new teams and the motor sports industry regularly contact us in search of qualified technicians. However, we fully realize that we cannot keep this program growing and providing the racing industry with talented individuals on our own. We welcome educational partners, racing teams, sponsors and interested parties. Feel free to offer your curriculum ideas, your time, expertise, or anything that you feel would help the cause of racing. Bringing talented young people into the racing industry will keep it strong and ready to move forward.

MOTORSPORTS VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Motorsports Vehicle Technology Internship Program started in June of 2001. During a 3-month internship, the student benefits from on-the-job experience, but remains registered as a student at Lanier Technical College. During this period, the intern is responsible for the appropriate tuition, insurance and miscellaneous costs at the college. Some of internships have offered a stipend, uniforms and room and board as pay. The true intent of the program is to provide training and a valuable learning experience for the intern. The MVT instructor will oversee the progress of the intern and collaborate with the place of business to ensure a quality experience.
Here's what some of our internship sites and employers have to say
"The students that have interned at our facilities were able to be productive immediately, and required minimal training". John Leverette, director of engineering Panoz Auto Development.

"Year One has been very impressed with the attitude, performance and job commitment of the Interns. I would not hesitate to hire any of them after they graduate from the program". David Alkaire, sales mgr. Year One.

"We have been involved with the internship program for the past four years, and have had very promising results". Steve Makin, Manufacturing Mgr. Elan Motorsports Technologies

"Our Interns have shown a willingness to learn, combined with the right attitude to accomplish the tasks they're given". Gregg Pitts, Warren Johnson Enterprises

"Our participation in the training and curriculum of the Motorsports Vehicle Technology program has yielded interns that can hit the ground running".
Paul Corner, Mechanical operations Mgr. The Richard Petty Driving Experience
