Purpose & Mission
The Printing &Graphics Technology program prepares students for employment in a variety of positions in today's modern printing industry. The Printing & Graphics Technology program provides learning opportunities which introduce, develop, and reinforce knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for getting a job, keeping it, and being promoted. Additionally, the program provides opportunities to upgrade present knowledge and skills or to retrain in the area of Printing & Graphics Technology.
Graduates of the program receive a Printing & Graphics Technology diploma with a specialization in one of the following areas: Printing Technology Specialization; Prepress Technology Specialization: Small Press Operations..

Get the Picture!
Printed graphics are so prolific and integral that we take them for granted.
Printing is the single most prolific manufacturing business that exist literally anywhere that someone wants you to know what, where, when or who.

Open your wallet and flip through all the printed license, imaged visa cards, bills, money, business cards. Look up from the road and marvel at all it takes to make a billboard the size of a basketball court to sell time-share in warm climates.

Do A Little Math
Your local supermarkets have about four hundred products on each isle, and around fifteen isles - that's six thousand products, and they change seasonally. Each and every one of those products has a label, bag, box, even all three, that must be designed by skilled graphic layout specialist and printed  by imaging techs and pressmen. They will put images anywhere any time someone sees an opportunity to grab the roving eye and bend the mind behind it to the purpose of communication.

Hacking the Visual Engine
Commercial graphics is about hacking the visual engine: getting into the involuntary mechanics that first make you look, and then plant the idea that the customer wants to put there. From the infectious magazine ad to the ever-present flier, pamphlet, or mailer, we exist in a modern day blizzard of media, not just when we are lounging on the couch, but at every moment we walk in public, drive the streets, flip a page, pick up the mail, get a pizza. It is all competing for just a critical seven seconds - the time it takes to start a notion, the notion to buy, the notion to dial, the notion to tune in, the notion to type to get @ somewhere on the web. Everything begins with a notion.

Hands On!
Hands-on training is at its very best in Lanier Tech's Printing & Graphics Department. Students are able to use state-of-the-art equipment in an authentic, professional setting.  With PGT training, students can look forward to a range of careers in layout and design, image processing, and commercial printing.  These courses teach the basics of how graphics are made in the 21st century and can lead to a career in Printing and Graphics.

PGT courses are offered every quarter and alternate day and evening meeting times for your convenience. The only prerequisite for these courses is entrance into the PGT Program.
