Cosmetology Diploma
The Cosmetology diploma program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the field of cosmetology. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, state laws, rules, and regulations, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, skin, hair, and nail diseases and disorders, hair treatments and manipulations, hair shaping, hair styling, artificial hair, braiding/intertwining hair, chemical reformation and application, skin and nail care, hair coloring, hair lightening, reception, sales, management, math, reading, writing, interpersonal relations development, computer skills, employability skills, and work ethics. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology. Program graduates receive a Cosmetology Technology diploma and are employable as a cosmetology salesperson, cosmetologist, salon manager, or a salon owner. This program is offered by the Cosmetology (COS) department.

Availibility
Students needing developmental courses are accepted Spring and Fall quarters only. Students classified as Regular Admission are accepted Winter and Summer quarter only based on space availbility. Students needing developmental courses and classified as either Provisional Admission or Developmental Admission are accepted Spring and Summer quarter only based on space availability. Students may begin Cosmetology coursework if space is available upon completion of all general core and/or developmental courses. This program offers day and evening classes at the Oakwood Campus.
Requirements
  • Applicant must be at least 16 years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED is required prior to graduation.
    Official transcripts or GED scores must be submitted from all colleges and/or high schools attended for credit.

  • Take the ASSET placement test or submit SAT, ACT, CPE or COMPASS test scores.
    All tests must have been taken within five (5) years of application for admission.


  • Additional Requirements
     Students must complete general core courses before admittance into occupational courses. Students may take general core courses at age 16; however, students must be 17 years of age before starting occupational courses.

    Cosmetic Esthetician Certificate
    The Cosmetic Esthetician certificate of credit program is designed to offer esthetics training for entry-level students. Completion of the program prepares students to sit for the Esthetics licensure examination given by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and to work in a variety of professions that employ estheticians in beauty salons, spas, health clubs, cosmetics stores as well as plastic surgeons' and dematologist's offices. Program graduates receive a Cosmetic Esthetician certificate of credit. This program is offered by the Cosmetology (COS) department.

    Availibility
    Students are accepted every quarter based on course and space availability. This program offers evening classes at the Oakwood Campus.
