Automotive Technology Degree
The Automotive Technology program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers in the automotive service and repair profession. Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of automotive mechanics theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive an Automotive Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree that qualifies them as automotive technicians. This program is offered by the Automotive Technology (AUT) department.

Availibility
Students are accepted every quarter based on course and space availability. This program offers day and evening classes at the Dawson Campus.
Requirements
  • Applicant must be at least 16 years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED is required prior to admission.
    Official transcripts or GED scores must be submitted from all colleges and/or high schools attended for credit.

  • Take the ASSET placement test or submit SAT, ACT, CPE or COMPASS test scores.
    All tests must have been taken within five (5) years of application for admission.

    Automotive Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Technician Certificate
    The Automotive Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Technician certificate program is designed to provide students with skills to enter the automotive industry as entry-level Automotive Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Technicians. This program introduces the study of automatic transmission/transaxle theory, power flow, fundamental hydraulic circuitry, electrical circuitry, testing procedures, diagnostic techniques, in car repair, service procedures, and overhaul procedures. Program graduates will receive an Automotive Automatic Transmission/Transaxle Technician certificate of credit. This program is offered by the Automotive Technology (AUT) department.

    Automotive Brake Technician Certificate
    The Automotive Brake Technician certificate program provides students with entry-level skills for entering the automotive industry as brake technicians. This program includes fundamental hydraulics, braking systems theory, operation, drum brakes, disc brakes, power assisted brakes, anti-lock braking systems, brake system diagnostics, brake system repair, and brake system servicing.     This program introduces students to the knowledge and skills they will need as entry-level engine performance technicians. Topics covered include theory, diagnosis, service, and repair of fuel systems, ignition systems, emission systems, and electronic engine controls.     The Automotive Engine Repair Technician certificate provides the student with entry-level skills that include basic shop safety, engine principles of operation, basic engine diagnosis, and basic engine repair.
