Medical Assisting Diploma
The Medical Assisting diploma program prepares students for employment in a variety of positions in today's medical offices. The Medical Assisting program provides learning opportunities which introduce, develop, and reinforce academic and occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Additionally, the program provides opportunities to upgrade present knowledge and skills or to retrain in the area of medical assisting. Graduates of the program receive a Medical Assisting diploma. The Lanier Technical College Medical Assisting programs at the Oakwood, Forsyth, and Winder-Barrow Campuses are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB.) CAAHEP, 1361 Park St, Clearwater, FL 33756, 727-210-2350. Lanier Technical College does not accept credit for experiential learning. This program is offered by the Medical Assisting (MAS) department.

Availibility
Students are accepted fall and spring quarter based on space availability. General core courses and/or electives may be taken any quarter. The program offers day classes at the Oakwood and Winder campuses. Day and evening classes are offered at the Forsyth campus. Requirements
  • Applicant must be at least 16 years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED is required prior to admission.
    Official transcripts or GED scores must be submitted from all colleges and/or high schools attended for credit.

  • Take the ASSET placement test or submit SAT, ACT, CPE or COMPASS test scores.
    All tests must have been taken within five (5) years of application for admission.


  • Additional Requirements
     A supervised, unpaid externship consisting of a minimum of 240 hours in an ambulatory health care setting performing administrative and clinical procedures must be completed prior to graduation. The externship experience and instruction of students are meaningful and parallel in content and concept with the material presented in lecture and laboratory sessions. Clinical sites are selected so that each student is afforded a variety of experiences, while at the same time all students are provided consistent learning opportunities. The students in externships are supervised, and are not allowed to receive any kind of compensation. Prior to beginning clinical/internship courses, students must order and pay for a background check and meet background check screening requirements as required by the clinical facility. Cost is approximately $50.

    Medical Skin Care Specialist Certificate
    The Medical Skin Care Specialist certificate of credit is designed to offer medical training for students to assist in Dermatology offices as well as Plastic Surgery offices. After completing the certificiate, students will be trained to assist with minor surgery as well as advanced skin care treatments such as scar removal, microdermabrasion, chemical peel, and laser treatments. Program graduates will be prepared to take the Medical Esthetics Certification Exam. Program graduates receive a Medical Skin Care Specialist certificate of credit. This program is offered by the Medical Assisting (MAS) department.

    Students are accepted every quarter based on course and space availability. See program director for possible course substitutions. This program offers day and evening classes at the Oakwood Campus.

    Medical Office Assistant Certificate
    The Medical Office Assistant Certificate of Credit program is designed to meet the needs of the student who is interested in attaining entry-level knowledge and skills necessary to work in the medical office field. In addition to providing an exit point for students who want to become employed rapidly, the program also provides the student with an avenue to pursue opportunities in other areas of healthcare management. Program graduates receive a Medical Office Assistant Technical Certificate of Credit. This program is offered by the Medical Assisting (MAS) department.
