Paramedic Technology Degree
The Paramedic Technology program prepares students for employment in paramedic positions in today's health services field. The Paramedic Technology program provides learning opportunities that introduce, develop, and reinforce academic and occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program provides opportunities to upgrade present knowledge and skills from the EMT level to the paramedic level. Graduates of the program receive a Paramedic Technology degree and are eligible to sit for the paramedic licensure examination. This program is offered by the Paramedic Technology (EMS) department.

Availibility
Students are accepted Fall quarter of each year. General core coures and/or electives may be taken any quarter. This program offers day and evening classes at the Oakwood Campus.
Requirements
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED is required prior to admission.
    Official transcripts or GED scores must be submitted from all colleges and/or high schools attended for credit.

  • Take the ASSET placement test or submit SAT, ACT, CPE or COMPASS test scores.
    All tests must have been taken within five (5) years of application for admission.


  • Additional Requirements
     Students must provide documentation of EMT Certification. Prior to beginning clinical/internship courses, students must order and pay for a background check and meet background check screening requirements as required by the clinical facility. Cost is approximately $50.

    COMMISSION OF A FELONY MAY PREVENT YOU FROM OBTAINING A EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN/PARAMEDIC LICENSE.
     
    Please read the following:

    All applicants for licensure as a EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN/PARAMEDIC shall consent to a criminal background check. OCGA 43-1-19. The board shall have the authority to refuse to grant, to revoke, or to discipline the license of any emergency medical technician/paramedic if such emergency medical technician/paramedic has any of the following:
    1) a felony conviction;
    2) a conviction for any crime involving moral turpitude,
    3) an arrest, charge, or sentence for any felony or crime involving moral turpitude where:
         a) a plea of nolo contendere was entered,
         b) first offender treatment granted, or
         c) the adjudication was otherwise withheld.
    A felony includes any offense which, if committed in the state of Georgia would be deemed a felony. A convicion includes either a verdict of guilty or a plea of guilty. OCGA 43-1-19.
     




    Paramedic Technology Diploma

    Emergency Medical Technology (Basic) Certificate
    This program covers the 1994 Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Curriculum. The EMT-Basic Program is designed to provide training, knowledge and skills in specific aspects at the basic level. Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT-Basic certification examination and receive Georgia licensure as an EMT-Basic. This program is offered by the Paramedic Technology (EMS) department.

    Availibility
    Students are accepted every nine months based on course and space availability. Students are accepted at the Oakwood Campus each Winter quarter. This program offers evening classes at the Oakwood Campus.
    Requirements
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

  • High school diploma or GED is required prior to admission.
    Official transcripts or GED scores must be submitted from all colleges and/or high schools attended for credit.

    Emergency Medical Technician (Intermediate) Certificate
    This program covers the both U.S. Department of Transportation 1985 Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate Curriculum and the 1994 Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Curriculum. The EMT-Intermediate Program is designed to provide additional training and increased knowledge and skills in specific aspects of advanced life support above the basic level. Successful completion of the program allows the graduate to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT-Intermediate/85 certification examination and receive Georgia licensure as an EMT-Intermediate. Upon completion of EMS 1115, students would be eligible to sit for the National Registry of EMTs EMT-Basic Exam. This program is offered by the Paramedic Technology (EMS) department.

    Students are accepted every nine months based on course and space availability. Students are accepted at the Forsyth Campus each Fall Quarter and the Oakwood Campus each Winter Quarter. This program offers day and evening classes at the Oakwood and Forsyth Campuses.

    Emergency Medical Technology (Plus) Certificate
    The Emergency Medical Technology - Plus certificate of credit program is a bridge program between the standardized EMT certificate of credit program and the Paramedic Technology diploma program. The program allows students who know they intend to enter the Paramedic program an opportunity to take the general core courses that are prerequisites to the Paramedic courses while completing the EMT certificate. The Emergency Medical Technology Plus training is established through a national curriculum designed by the National Transportation Safety Board and leads to certification as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician. Program graduates receive an Emergency Medical Technology Plus certificate of credit. This program is offered by the Paramedic Technology (EMS) department.
