Program of Study
Every year, fires and other emergencies take thousands of lives and destroy property worth billions of dollars. Fire fighters protect the public against these dangers by responding to fires, but Fire Service Professionals do more than put out fires!
They are often the first emergency personnel at the scene of a traffic accident or medical emergency and may be called upon to treat injuries or perform other vital functions. They are also crucial in Homeland Security events.
Fire Fighter I Certificate courses teach you to be a competent member of a firefighting team. Upon successful completion of these programs, the student will be entitled to take the State and National Firefighter I Certification test. The student will also be eligible for testing in the State Hazardous Materials - Awareness, and Hazardous Materials - Operations certifications. Students learn a variety of hands-on skills and theory including:
Basic Fire Company Officer, Fire Officer I, & Fire Officer II Certificate courses train you to be a leader in the fire services field:
- Effective Use of High-Pressure Hoses
- Safe Entry into Burning Buildings
- Search and Rescue of Building Occupants
- Realistic, Hands-On Practice Drills
- Controlled Burns
- Fire Prevention and Inspection
- Arson Investigation
- Community Disaster Planning
Firefighter/EMSP Diploma courses help you to become a capable first responder. Upon successful completion of these programs the student will be entitled to take the State and National Firefighter I Certification test. The student will also be eligible for State; Hazardous Materials: Awareness and Hazardous Materials: Operations, Fire and Life Safety Educator I Certification testing.
The Student will also be eligible to test for State Emergency Medical Technician certification and the National Registry for Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Students learn a variety of hands-on skills and theory including:
- Basic Medical Care
- Shock and Trauma Treatment
- Vehicle Extrication
- Safe and Expeditious Transport of Patients
- Technical Rescue
Fire Science Technology Diploma and Degree courses develop your
fire service management skills and enhance promotion possibilities.
Course work already taken by Firefighters from other institutions, such
as the Georgia Fire Academy, and any national certifications will be
reviewed and considered for credit.
Upon completion of either
program the student will be eligible to set for the State and National
Fire Officer I Certification test. Students learn a
variety of hands-on skills and theory including:
- Firefighting Strategies and Tactics
- Hazardous Materials Operations
- Hydraulics, Hydrostatics, and Hydrokinetics
- Fire Protection Systems
- Fire Company and Department Administration Management
- Fire Investigation
