OAKWOOD - Lanier Technical College and Valdosta State University signed two Pathway Program agreements on Monday, Feb. 10. Through the agreements, students graduating with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in 22 programs from Lanier Tech can begin working on a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree with a major in technical studies from Valdosta State University. Also, students graduating with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) from Lanier Tech can begin to work toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from Valdosta State University in organizational leadership.

Dr. Ray Perren, President of Lanier Technical College,
said, “We appreciate our partnership with Valdosta State University and the University System of Georgia. This comprehensive agreement allows any associate degree graduate from Lanier Technical College to transfer nearly all of the credit earned at Lanier Tech toward a bachelor's degree at VSU. We are excited to offer our graduates with this opportunity to work toward their education and career goals. We believe this agreement will help both our institutions assure Georgia has the workforce needed to continue to successfully compete in the global economy.


Dr. W.J. McKinney, President of Valdosta State University, added, “Our relationship with Lanier Technical College, and indeed the Technical College System of Georgia, is a very important piece of Valdosta State University's commitment to Governor Deal's Complete College Georgia initiative. It is these types of collaborative relationships that will assist more students in earning the credentials they desire, and in helping to create a more highly educated and prepared workforce throughout Georgia.”

Lanier Technical College programs included under the agreements are: Accounting, Applied Technical Management, Automotive Technology, Business Administrative Technology, Business Management, Clinical Laboratory Technology, Computer Support Specialist, Criminal Justice Technology, Dental Hygiene, Design & Media Production Technology, Drafting Technology, Early Childhood Care & Education, Electrical Utility Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, Fire Science Technology, Health Information Technology, Healthcare Management Technology, Histology, Horticulture, Industrial Systems Technology, Interiors, Internet Specialist-Web Site Design, Machine Tool Technology, Marketing, Medical Assisting, Motorsports Vehicle Technology, Networking Specialist, Paramedicine, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Solar Energy Technology and Surgical Technology.

The Pathways Program centers on the priorities of Complete College Georgia (CCG), an initiative developed to increase the number of Georgians earning a college degree. In 2012, institutions in both the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and the University System of Georgia (USG) submitted plans to achieve the ambitious goal of adding more than 250,000 postsecondary graduates to Georgia’s workforce by 2020. The Pathways Program is aligned with the goals of Complete College America and Governor Nathan Deal's Complete College Georgia Initiative.
