Lanier Technical College will hold a Health Occupations Camp July 11-15 at the Oakwood Campus. Admission is open to eighth and ninth grade students who are interested in learning more about careers in health care. Campers will have the opportunity to explore good paying, exciting career paths in various health fields and tour campus health programs and facilities including Dental Assisting, Dental Hygiene, Paramedic Technology, Nursing, Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Surgical Technology. Campers will also have the opportunity to interact with local medical personnel and tour local facilities including Northeast Georgia Medical Center and the University of Georgia.
Lunch and snacks will be provided to campers. Parent/legal guardian is welcome to attend any/all sessions. Campers are required to wear khaki pants and pay a $25 registration fee after notification of acceptance to the camp. Kick-off meeting will be held at 5:30 PM on July 11, 2005. Graduation ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM on July 15, 2005. Deadline for application is June 17, 2005. Lanier Technical College will hold a Manufacturing Technology/Entrepreneurship Camp July 18-22 at the Oakwood Campus. Admission is open to seventh and eighth grade students who are interested in learning more about careers in robotics and manufacturing. Campers will have the opportunity to explore good paying, exciting career paths in manufacturing and tour campus industrial technology programs and facilities including Drafting, Electronics Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, and Machine Tool Technology. Campers will get hands-on experience (1) designing a product using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and rapid prototyping, (2) producing the product using Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment, and (3) checking its quality using a CNC Coordinate Measuring Machine. Campers will also learn how to build, program, and test a robotic invention.
Additionally, campers will receive entrepreneurship training to learn specific skills for starting a successful business and have the opportunity to tour local manufacturing facilities.

A Public Safety Camp for tenth and eleventh grade students will be held July 25-29 at the Oakwood Campus. Campers will have the opportunity to explore exciting career paths in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, and Emergency Medical Services. Campers will tour local public safety and emergency facilities including the mobile meth laboratory and SWAT team vans. Campers will also get hands-on experience in crime scene investigation and witness demonstrations on lake enforcement, life saving techniques, and fire-fighting activities. Campers will get a close-up view of the Life Flight helicopter.

Lanier Technical College will conduct Credit
Recovery Camps at four campus locations for eleventh and twelfth grade students
who have taken the Georgia High School Graduation Test and failed the science or
social studies portion of the test. Students will be engaged in special
instruction and other interventions before retaking the test. The camps will be
conducted during the two week period prior to the retest dates.
Students may choose to attend a short session,
which will meet from July 11 – 15, or a longer session, which begins July 5 and
continues through July 15, 2005. Camps will be held at the following Lanier
Technical College locations: Jackson County campus, Winder/Barrow campus,
Forsyth County campus, and at the Lanier Career Academy in Gainesville.
Lunch and snacks will be provided to campers. The
registration fees are $50 for the short session, and $75 for the long session.
Classes begin at 9:00 a.m. each day. Deadline for application is June 24, 2005.
