Lanier Technical College is expanding once again with a new campus in Dawson County. The focus of this campus will be on several brand new programs, including plumbing, automotive technology, and electrical construction, which are unique to Lanier Tech’s eight-county service area. Other programs that continue to be strong at Lanier Tech’s other campuses will be offered at the Dawson Campus as well. These include welding, management, accounting, business office technology, and certified nursing assistant.

Dr. Mike Moye, President of Lanier Technical College, is particularly pleased to see this expansion. “Convenience is one of the major benefits of Georgia’s technical college system, and with this campus, we expect to attract those students for whom our Cumming and Oakwood Campuses were too far of a drive. We are also excited to serve students who have been waiting for these new, in-demand programs to become available.”

Located off of Allen Street near the intersection of Highways 53 and 9, the campus will consist of the building that some might remember as the technology building of the former Dawson County High School. This structure is already equipped for the technical programs planned. In addition, the campus will have four general classrooms for business, computer, healthcare, English, and math classes. The Board of Education is funding and overseeing the renovations of the building and grounds. The work is well underway, and the campus should be operational by late September.

Those interested are invited to one of the informational sessions to be held at the former Crossroads building off of Allen Street. Drop in anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16; Tuesday, August 30; Tuesday, September 13; Thursday, September 22; or Tuesday, September 27. All diploma programs require placement tests, which will be administered at all of the September informational sessions. Apply now to be ready to register during new student registration on September 1 or during late registration on October 3.
