Associate of Science in Nursing Program Opens Second Cohort

June 24, 2025

Gainesville, GA— Lanier Technical College’s Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program is a two-year
associate-level nursing program that comprises a sequence of courses designed to prepare
students for a career in the nursing profession. The curriculum is designed to produce highly
trained, technically advanced, competent, and caring individuals who are prepared to practice
professional nursing in a variety of healthcare settings.

The purpose of the program is to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and
attitudes to practice competently and safely as beginning nurses. The nurse is viewed as a
caregiving healthcare professional who possesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills,
integrity, accountability, a theoretical knowledge base, refined psychomotor skills, and a
commitment to lifelong learning.

In direct support of Governor Brian Kemp’s initiative to tackle Georgia’s nursing shortage and
expand the healthcare workforce, Lanier Tech has launched a new ASN cohort at its Hall County
campus in the Spring of 2025. This new cohort operates similarly to the original ASN cohort
located at Lanier Tech’s Forsyth County campus.

Lanier Tech’s ASN Program Director, Leanna Valentine, can foreshadow the value that this
program expansion will bring,

“Expanding to the Hall Campus means we can serve more students and assist healthcare
organizations to meet the critical need for qualified Registered Nurses across Northeast
Georgia. Lanier Tech’s ASN program has earned a reputation for excellence in preparing
confident, compassionate, and clinically skilled nurses. The program will now annually
accept 30 new students at the college’s Forsyth County campus and 25 new students at
the college’s Hall County campus.”

Students who graduate from the program receive an Associate of Science in Nursing degree.
Graduates are then eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for
Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN and licensure by
the Georgia Board of Nursing, graduates are employable as Registered Nurses in a variety of
healthcare arenas.

Student interest in the program’s new cohort has been excellent as of Summer 2025. This is just
one of many opportunities that Lanier Tech is using to close the skills gap in Northeast Georgia
and fulfill its mission of “Workforce Development.”
