Health Information Management Technology (HIMT) Program Gains Accreditation

The Health Information Management Technology Program of Lanier Technical College (LTC) recently announced its new CAHIIM (Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management) accreditation. With this accomplishment, students are now permitted to sit for their Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential. This accreditation assures our students are receiving world-class instruction as they prepare to enter the high-demand Health Information Management field.

When asked about this achievement, Annette Baker, HIMT Program Director and Instructor of the Year at Lanier Tech said, “I am grateful to attain accreditation for our program because it enables our students to go as far and as fast as they choose in the field of Health Information Technology. Lanier Technical College’s leadership, faculty and staff have all invested time, expertise to create another program of excellence that delivers value to our community and positively contribute to quality patient care.”

President Dr. Ray Perren also shared his excitement by expressing to the staff how very proud LTC was of the HIMT program. “This program prepares graduates for outstanding career opportunities in the Health Information Management field which is critically important in today’s health crisis. We look forward to continued growth of the program due the new designation.”

The HIMT program began in 2013 with three students and now has approximately 100 students enrolled as of the fall, 2020, semester. The Health Information Management Technology degree program is a launching pad to over 70 different career pathways in the healthcare environment ranging from entry-level positions in patient scheduling, registration and outpatient medical coding to managerial positions in practice management, revenue cycle management, and data analytics.
