Lanier Technical College Announces Plan for Fall Semester

July 16, 2020

Gainesville, GA – Today Lanier Technical College officially announced its plans for conducting classes when the 2020 Fall Semester begins on August 17th. While the college will offer some face-to-face instruction for Fall Semester, approximately half of all courses will be offered 100% online. Of the courses that are offered onsite, very few will be 100% face-to-face.  Most of the courses with an onsite component will be hybrid with students coming to campus no more than 50% of the time for the lecture portion of courses.

With this announcement, President Ray Perren outlined the precautions students and faculty must abide by while they are on campus. These include daily health screens to take temperature readings, the wearing of face masks for anyone who enters campus buildings, and social distancing at least 6 feet. Classroom and laboratory spaces will be retrofitted to meet social distancing guidelines in addition to routine cleaning by the support staff of the college. No more than 25 individuals will be allowed to congregate in a given area and all must be in appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) dependent on the program.
Onsite instruction will end no later than November 24, 2020. All instruction and exams after the Thanksgiving holiday will be provided in an online learning environment. Employees and students should also expect these same guidelines to be in place for Spring Semester 2021.

When asked about the college’s plan, Perren said, “The safety and wellbeing of our students and our employees is our number one priority as we carry out our essential mission of workforce development. We will continue to work with our system office as well as our community partners make any necessary changes as we move forward.”
