Fire Science Program Purchases New Fire Engine for Training

May 26, 2022

Lanier Technical College’s Fire Science Program received a new piece of life-saving equipment earlier this week. A 2008 Pierce Enforcer fire engine rolled into Lanier Tech’s Hall Campus to be transitioned from an active-duty engine with the Alpharetta Fire Department to become a teaching aide for Lanier Tech’s Fire Science students.

Fire Science and Emergency Management Program Director, Karen Nowakowski, was ecstatic about the new acquisition.

The strong relationships between our local fire departments and Lanier Technical College have been instrumental in successfully training men and women to become certified Georgia firefighters. The recent acquisition of the Pierce fire engine from the City of Alpharetta will increase performance-based training scenarios for our current students to serve our communities better. The fire engine also opens up an opportunity for Lanier Technical College to offer certified firefighters additional training courses that are not being offered within their perspective departments. I began my Georgia firefighting career with Alpharetta Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. Watching the fire engine previously owned by the city of Alpharetta pull onto our property was a surreal moment. I am incredibly thankful for the opportunity to receive a modern and well-maintained apparatus from one of our stellar Metro-Atlanta fire departments that was significant in my career as a fire fighter.

Phillip Seabolt, Chief of Fire Administration in Alpharetta had this to say, “We are excited about Lanier Tech being able to use a Fire Engine that has served our Fire Department and the City of Alpharetta so well. We are grateful for our partnership with Lanier Tech and the great job they do training excellent firefighters.” Likewise, Lanier Tech President, Tim McDonald, shared Chief Seabolt’s sentiment, “Lanier Technical College is very proud to add this apparatus to our Fire Science program. The College’s mission of “Workforce Development” is based on real-world training on real-world equipment. Our students, and ultimately our communities, will benefit from this new training opportunity.”
