Dual Enrollment New Student Orientation Student Assistance Program

The Special Populations Coordinator provides counseling and assistance to students, including special populations students*, to help them stay in college and reach their goals. Below are some of the types of problems for which students are provided referrals:

  • Domestic abuse problems, problems at home
  • Depression, mental health, counseling

Who are Special Populations Students? *

  • individuals with disabilities;
  • individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including low-income youth and adults;
  • individuals preparing for non-traditional fields;
  • single parents, including single pregnant women;
  • out-of-workforce individuals;
  • English learners;
  • homeless individuals;
  • youth who are in, or have aged out of, the foster care system; and
  • Youth with parents on active duty in the armed forces.

What Assistance is Available?

  • Consultation to provide referrals to community and college resources
  • Lunch & Learns on topics:
    • Financial Aid/Scholarships
    • Budgeting
    • Suicide Prevention Certification
    • Drug/Alcohol Speakers
    • School-Work-Home Life Balance
  • ESPYR – free counseling services for emotional, financial and legal services (discounted or no charge)
